Piece One-Movement, Hozier
These two dances are scores for my improvisation class at Urbanity Dance. The first one was from when our class mixed a free-write with dancing. I started with a 10-minute free-write, then 10 minutes of dancing. Then we divided the time in half, and then quarters until it was only 30 seconds of dancing and writing. After we finished that, we re-read the free-writes and circled all of the adjectives, then wrote a list of the verbs that we used. I chose 6 of my favorite verbs from my own writing and 6 from other peoples’ writings. Then we made movements that reflect the twelve verbs. Finally, we put them into a sequence that made sense and performed them in front of the class. This score represents the twelve verbs that I chose. I selected this piece because I loved using two art forms to create one piece.

Piece Two-Stand By Me, Ben E. King
This next piece is a score about a day in my life. One day in Improvisation, I had a sub for class and she told us to think of four things we do in the morning. I created a dance linking together these four actions. I really enjoyed that, so I took the score and changed it a bit. I extended it to the whole day and picked parts that would flow well together. The parts are waking up, getting dressed, taking public transportation, going to school, going home, and doing it all over again. I think the music works well with the score because it reflects the emotions that I am trying to convey.
