What is “good” posture? Good posture consists of training our body to stand, walk, sit and lie in a fashion that we are placing the least amount of pressure on the skeletal system. This assists our bones, muscles and ligaments to strengthen for load-bearing activities that we encounter in our everyday lives. Quick tips while at home:
-Set a calendar alert or phone alarm every 10-15 minutes to check in with yourself: are you slouching? are you sitting very close to the screen, or reaching too far for your keyboard or mouse?
-Strengthen your core! By actively pulling our navel towards our back simply while sitting or standing, this is a core exercise to engage the area that most often kicks our “good” posture to the curb.
-Sit up straight, but relaxed in your chair. Make sure your backs is naturally leaning against the chair back, including making sure your glutes are shifted all the way to the back of the chair as well.
-Find an accountability buddy. Check in with teammates via slack messages or video chat. We can fight poor posture together!
