In 1950s, the United States began stationing large numbers of troops on Taiwan in order to provide training, support, and economic aid to the Republic of China(Taiwan) . The whole training supporting plan remained from 1950’s to the late 70’s

Along with these military personnel and U.S. officers came their families, including children needing an American-style education. Taipei American School (TAS) became the school for the children of the U.S. military personnel. Some of there kids left Taiwan along with their parents because of the transfer order in 2 or 3 years, some stayed in Taiwan for few more years, but most of them went back to U.S. before 18 years old.

Decades later, these “kids” are no longer kids and they have their own kids too. They started their own family in the U.S. but they all miss the place they once used to stay in the childhood, where they call “home” Taiwan.

That’s why they all come back to Taiwan, been waiting for over 40 years.

If you live in Taiwan, let’s take a look at this island thru their eyes again.

If you once lived in Taiwan, find out the memories of Taiwan we shared when we were young.
