Lower Merion High School coach Gregg Downer reads a statement about former player Kobe Bryant. Bryant, who died in a helicopter crash on Sunday, was an NBA superstar who got his start in the suburbs of Philadelphia, where a gymnasium is named for him. Downer remembers Bryant’s enthusiasm and love of the game, but especially his focused determination to make it big in a sport he loved.
