Christ is enough

These last couple of weeks have demonstrated that the ability to remain connected through immense challenges is very possible. As we continue to minister through online opportunities, you’ll notice a revised version of the weekly program that we hand out on Sunday. Within the information it provides, there will be a sermon outline that includes questions for discussion/reflection. Many are creatively utilizing platforms to worship together even while in different homes. As we join with brothers and sisters across this tiny planet, we worship a very awesome God. Today’s message continues our look at the truths we declare when we sing the songs that we sing as part of our worship. This week’s song proclaims that “Christ is Enough”.

We have to create stories that make the headlines for love, for peace, for justice. I think we are in the midst of a beautiful renewal in the Church…there are thousands of us, maybe even millions—who want a Christianity that looks like Jesus again. We want to be known, as Jesus said we would be known—by our love. We are not willing to just use our faith as a ticket into heaven and an excuse to ignore the world we live in. We are not willing to be so heavenly minded that we are no earthly good. Our faith fuels us to engage the world we live in—to bring heaven to earth.

Desire that your life count for something great! Long for your life to have eternal significance. Want this! Don’t coast through life without a passion…You get one pass at life. That’s all. Only one. And the lasting measure of that life is Jesus Christ. John Piper, Don’t Waste Your Life

Sermon Notes

Our ministry year theme is “20/20 Vision; Life as God Intends”. We are currently in a series entitled “Seeing Clearly the Songs that we Sing”. We have been wonderfully encouraged by many classic songs. This week we will allow the words from Scripture and the song “Christ is Enough” to examine us and guide us to living fully alive in Christ.

Christ is Enough

Christ’s Great Love is Enough
Scripture passages: Daniel 9:23; 10:11; 10:19; Ephesians 2:3-5,8

Christ’s great love for you fills all of your needs.

Christ is My Reward
Scripture: Matthew 13:44
The treasure of having Christ surpasses all other desires.

Christ is Enough to Launch Me From my Comforts
Scripture passages: Matthew 7:21-23; Matthew 16:24- 27
1. Having correct doctrine is not enough
2. Showing passionate emotion is not enough
3. Engaging activism is not enough

“I didn’t go to religion to make me happy. I always knew a bottle of Port would do that. If you want a religion to make you feel really comfortable, I certainly don’t recommend Christianity.” C.S. Lewis God in the Dock

During all that life delivers we discover that Christ is Enough.

Discussion/Reflection Questions:
What is an indication that the “great love” Jesus Christ has for you is causing you to treasure Him beyond all else?

How is “comfortable Christian journey” a great obstacle to our spiritual well-being?

Share an experience when you have lived outside of your comfort zone and how that was transformational.

What “skin” is God calling you to shed in order to transform you to who you were called to be?
