The “Real” Risk: What You Don’t Know About Being Authentic

In a world where we are encouraged to be authentic yet people aren’t actually who they post to be, do you know the real risks of being real? Let’s talk about the pros and the cons of true authenticity, when to filter, and how to be true to ourselves and live a life fulfilled and on purpose. Dr. April Jones has spent 15 years in healthcare leadership and advocacy efforts, but it’s her personal story that highlights her resilience and makes her an authority on overcoming adversity. Her oldest son, Tyler, now a college student, is a cancer survivor, amputee, internationally medalled athlete, and fellow advocate. She turned their pain into purpose by publishing her book, No Mess No Message, and co-founding the Drifted Drum Company with Tyler, a publishing, event, and merch platform to bring hope and encouragement to others.

Through both her professional and personal journeys, she discovered the importance of self-reflection and being authentic and in this TedXTalk, The “Real” Risk: What You Don’t Know About Being Authentic, will share a closer look at the role authenticity plays in our pursuit of success and fulfillment. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
