Journalists are tasked with reporting the truth, which often requires them to investigate and cover difficult and traumatic stories. But the impact of this intense work on mental health is still not widely acknowledged or discussed. In this talk, with our guests appearing via Zoom, we will be exploring the psychological toll of covering difficult subjects in the most challenging of circumstances. We will look into “moral injury,” a relatively new concept in the field of mental health that describes the impact of violating personal values or ethical principles in the course of work. And we will discuss how the journalism industry needs to adapt in order to support employees’ vital work while maintaining their health and mental wellbeing. Moderated by FCC Correspondent Member Governor Olivia Parker.
